How is Home Carers Direct different?
Home Carers Direct is an online platform connecting people seeking home care directly with vetted, suitably qualified, and insured, local home carers.
Carers using Home Carers Direct are independent workers running their own businesses, so they set their own rates and are engaged directly by those seeking care. All carers have passed national police record and referee checks, have had their qualifications verified, and are covered by insurance.
By using Home Carers Direct, people seeking care can search for and choose their carer according to their needs and preferences (e.g. spoken languages). And by engaging their carer directly, they may pay less per hour than with a traditional provider.
Home Carers Direct is a family owned business and the platform has been available for bookings since April 2018.
How did Home Carers Direct come about?
Through my own family circumstances, it became apparent to me that the existing ways of accessing home care were structurally incapable of providing real control to those seeking aged care and disability support in their homes and communities.
The industry needed a technological breakthrough to facilitate direct and safe engagement of carers by those who wish to seek and manage home care for themselves or their loved ones.
After more than a decade working in legal roles in Government I decided to establish an online platform that enabled care seekers to engage carers directly and build their own care or support team while still maintaining a high standard of risk management and quality.
The objective was to remove the need for excessive fees charged by organisations which cause inefficiencies in the system and disadvantage the most vulnerable members of our society.
After two years of development, the online platform and the rigorous carer registration and vetting processes were established allowing me to launch the homecarersdirect.com.au platform.
The end result is an online marketplace for home care services that strikes a balance between the interests of carers, and those who receive care, to provide both parties with a safe place to arrange and manage care services.
Since April 2018 we have seen our small family business help many Australians gain control over their home care, reduce their administrative burden, avoid unnecessarily high fees and, give users more dignity and independence.
