COVID-19 Infection Control Training

With so much information about COVID-19 available in the public domain, it's hard to know which is reliable and which is not. And even if we believe that we have a good understanding of coronavirus infection control, it's always good to revise and test our knowledge.

The Australian Government Department of Health, together with Aspen Medical, have developed a series of online COVID-19 Infection Control Training modules for use by health care workers including aged care and disability support workers. The modules are available for FREE at

If you haven't done so already, you will need to register to access the portal and course materials. You can take your time learning the content for each module and then you can take a quiz to test your knowledge. You can repeat individual courses as required.

After completing a quiz, you will be provided with a certificate acknowledging this. The portal also makes additional resources available such as posters and videos. And by having registered, you will receive notifications of revisions.

The modules are as follows:

COVID-19 Aged Care Module 1 — Personal Safety
COVID-19 Aged Care Module 2 — Families and Visitors - Part 1 - Residential Care
COVID-19 Aged Care Module 2 — Families and Visitors - Part 2 - In-home Care
COVID-19 Aged Care Module 3 — COVID 19 and Aged Care
COVID-19 Aged Care Module 4 — Outbreak Management Procedures
COVID-19 Aged Care Module 5 — Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
COVID-19 Aged Care Module 6 — Laundry
COVID-19 Aged Care Module 7 — Cleaning
COVID-19 Aged Care Module 8 — If you suspect a person has coronavirus COVID-19
COVID-19 Aged Care Module 9 — Supporting Older Australians - Part 1 Residential Care
COVID-19 Aged Care Module 9 — Supporting Older Australians - Part 2 In-Home Care

COVID-19 Indigenous Health Module 1 - Introduction To COVID-19 Epidemiology
COVID-19 Indigenous Health Module 2 - Contact Tracing
COVID-19 Indigenous Health Module 3 - Conducting interview with our mob (coming soon)
COVID-19 Indigenous Health Module 4 - Using Personal Protective Equipment in remote communities (coming soon)
COVID-19 Indigenous Health Module 5 - Line Listing and data management for COVID-19 (coming soon)

We encourage all our users to learn about COVID-19 infection control, but in particular, we require all home carers to complete at least modules 1 to 9. As you know, it is important that we all do our best to protect each other and the broader community.

Remember that if you are a care or support worker, you must not, under any circumstances, attend a shift if you are feeling unwell with cold or flu symptoms, or if you have been in contact with a person who has a confirmed case of COVID-19. If you have any questions, you can call the Australian Government Coronavirus Health Information Line on 1800 020 080.
