Ltd.Through its partners, Zurich Australian Insurance and Gow Gates, Home Carers Direct has arranged comprehensive and market leading insurance for all its Care Givers, when providing services via the Home Carers Direct platform. This provides peace of mind for Care Givers and Care Consumers, while also meeting the requirements of Government approved providers seeking to engage the services of Home Carers Direct’s Care Givers for their clients.

To protect the Home Carers Direct community, the insurance covers ALL Care Givers on the Home Carers Direct platform when providing services to their clients via the Home Carers Direct platform. 

The insurances arranged for our Care Givers include:

  • Combined General Liability Insurance
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance
  • Group Personal Accident Insurance

and provide you and the people seeking your services with the peace of mind that you are covered for your legal costs and for any damages awarded against you as a result of a claim arising from the provision of your services to your clients via the Home Carers Direct platform.

Please note, it is important to correctly record and pay for all care services via Home Carers Direct, as the insurance only applies if:

  • the liability arose as a result of work undertaken via Home Carers Direct Platform, or
  • you were undertaking work via the Home Carers Direct Platform at the time of the injury.

Please note you will not be covered for work that is not undertaken and paid for through Home Carers Direct’s platform.

Combined General Liability

Zurich’s Civil Combined General Liability insurance provides cover if you become legally liable to pay compensation for personal injury, property damage and advertising liability as a result of an occurrence in connection with the provision of care via the Home Carers Direct Platform.

The policy provides $20,000,000 cover for you for your legal liability to pay compensation arising out of:

  • Personal Injury
  • Property damage
  • Advertising liability

as a result of an occurrence in connection with the provision of care services via the Home Carers Direct Platform.

The policy has also been extended to cover:

  • reimbursement of reasonable costs and expenses incurred to successfully defend any action or allegation if you have been accused of theft of any property by a client up to a maximum of $25,000,
  • $2,000,000 Molestation by unknown offenders cover, and
  • your liability if your clients’ property is damaged whilst in your charge and control.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

The National Health Practitioner Acts prohibits nurses and midwives from practising unless they are appropriately insured.

Home Carers Direct has arranged a Zurich Civil Liability Professional Indemnity Insurance to protect our Care Givers for loss arising from any claim in respect of:

  • Malpractice, and
  • Civil Liability

committed or alleged to have been committed for which you are responsible due to the provision of your care services, including:

  • Libel, Slander and Defamation,
  • Loss of Documents,
  • Online Medicare Benefit Fraud,
  • Privacy Complaints and Claims,
  • Breach of professional duty,
  • Breaches of consumer protection legislation, and
  • Privacy complaints.

Zurich Community Care Policy Schedule - Professional Indemnity Insurance

Group Personal Accident Insurance

Home Carers Direct has arranged Personal Accident Insurance to protect our Care Givers from the risk of financial hardship if you are accidentally injured whilst engaged in:

  • work arranged via the Home Carers Direct Platform,
  • direct uninterrupted travel between your normal place of residence or place of employment, whichever is your destination,
  • direct and uninterrupted travel between one place of employment and another, and
  • activities undertaken during lunchtimes and meal breaks.

The policy provides:

Accidental Death and Capital Benefits cover of:

  • $100,000 for Care Givers with dependents, and
  • $50,000 for Care Givers without dependents

Weekly Injury Benefits after an excess period of 14 days:

  • 85% of salary up to $750 per week for a period of 8 weeks, and
  • 75% of salary up to $750 per week for the remaining period of 96 weeks.

Due to the National Health Act, no coverage is provided under this insurance for medical expenses.

Insurance Premiums

As a significant benefit to its Care Givers, Home Carers Direct is funding the cost of the Combined General Liability, Professional Indemnity and Group Personal Accident Insurances.

Claims Process

Step 1 - Gow-Gates Insurance Brokers

Once your claim form has been received, Gow-Gates will verify that:

  • the liability arose as a result of work undertaken via Home Carers Direct Platform, or
  • you were undertaking work via the Home Carers Direct Platform at the time of the injury.

Step 2 - Zurich Australian Insurance Limited

Once verified, Gow-Gates Insurance Brokers will review your claim form and supporting documentation to ensure you have provided all the information necessary to lodge the claim on your behalf.

Your claim will be lodged with the Insurer claims team who will review the incident in conjunction with the wording and schedule and then determine if indemnity is to be granted. 

Once determined the Insurer will contact and liaise with the claimant directly.
